BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Adam Byerly is an assistant professor in the Computer Science and Information Systems department at Bradley University. Before joining Bradley, Dr. Byerly accumulated over 20 years of software engineering and architecture experience in various industries including marketing, financial, insurance, and manufacturing.

TEACHING
Dr. Byerly’s teaching is focused on introductory programming and database courses. Courses Dr. Byerly currently teaches or has recently taught include:

  • CS 101 - Introduction to Programming
  • CS 102 - Data Structures
  • CS 370 - Database Management Systems
  • CS 571 - Database Management Systems
  • CIS 576 - Data Management

SCHOLARSHIP
Dr. Byerly’s research interests are in artificial intelligence with a focus on biologically inspired algorithms and machine learning. Dr. Byerly's earlier publications were related to genetic algorithms and ant colony optimization. More recently, he has been researching convolutional neural networks for computer vision.

SERVICE

Dr. Byerly’s service to the University and CS&IS Department are varied and include serving as one of the CS&IS Department's associate chairs and involvement with multiple student gaming clubs.

Dr. Byerly’s outside interests include (a moderate amount) of gaming, hard rock and metal music, including producing and performing. Dr. Byerly's favorite band is Van Halen (but Sammy or Dave?).
